What We Believe
We believe that every human was created in the image of GOD and their work is meant to glorify the Spirit by utilizing their God-given talents to improve the community. Young people are critical to this vision because we know that taking initiative at a young age builds confidence and encourages self-reliance.
We believe in a need for creative approaches to literary arts education and literacy development; we believe it is crucial to provide safe spaces where youth can undergo a process of personal growth and transformation in a program that enriches their educational, professional, artistic and leadership skills.
Through the literary & performing arts, especially the Spoken Word, Live.Seed seeks to create a community of student artists and activists, who have an interest in giving back to their communities. Youth are encouraged to discover and use their voices to give social commentary on issues that are important to them. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in Open Mics, compete in Poetry Slams and create a theater production. Our goal is to empower the next generation of leaders, artists, and activists through the arts. We challenge youth to find, develop, present and apply their art as creators of peace & social justice in the community.
Live Seed programs exist to create safe spaces that allow Memphis Youth to discover their voice through the literary and performing arts and empower them to use their talents for social justice and change in their lives and communities.
Our vision is to transform the perception of Memphis by establishing a network of art-activists to create a youth-led movement that focuses on literacy, expresses through the arts, seeks social justice teaches with experiential and service learning and forms positive relationships with God, self and the global community.
